Frequently Asked Questions
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is it true that our community can win $150,000 by participating in this challenge? YES! All participating communities will be competing for the title of “Canada’s Most Active Community”. The winning community will be receiving a $150,000 grand prize! Five regional prizes of $20,000 will also be awarded to the communities who accumulate the most active minutes throughout the challenge. To give ourselves the best chance to win, we need to work together and GET MOVING from May 31st to June 16th!
How is the winner determined? Communities of all sizes will be participating in this challenge. For this reason, ParticipACTION will be using a calculation to determine every community’s overall score to make sure that every community has an equal chance to win. When you register for the challenge (see below for more information) you will be asked to enter your postal code. All of the physical activity minutes you log will be going towards that postal code/community.
Who can participate? Anyone! It doesn’t matter what age you are, if you’re new to exercise or if you’re a marathon runner – the challenge is meant to bring communities together by encouraging everyone to increase their levels of physical activity no matter where they are at.
What is also great about this challenge is that there is not a specific number of physical activity minutes that you need to aim for every day. So this challenge really is for everyone! Even if you aren’t participating in any activity right now you are still encouraged you to participate in the challenge because every minute counts! Start by aiming for 10 minutes per day and work your way up.
How can you register for the challenge and track your physical activity minutes? There are two ways to track your physical activity minutes throughout the challenge:
- Download the ParticipACTION app on your smartphone.
- Use the ParticipACTION website. **Using the website is a great option for kids because they can have their parents log their exercise minutes for them. What’s also great about the website is that you can log physical activity minutes for a group of people; therefore, if you have family members or friends who don’t own a computer or don’t know how to use one, you can log their physical activity minutes for them.**
