Learners at Marathon Family Health Team
Welcome to Marathon and the Marathon Family Health Team. This group practice evolved in August of 1996 and became a multidisciplinary Family Health Team in December 2005. We currently have nine physicians, one director, one social worker, two registered nurses, two registered practical nurses, one part-time epidemiologist, and several administrative support staff. We are currently recruiting a registered dietitian and nurse practitioner. During your rotation you will have an opportunity to work with various members of our multidisciplinary team.

The physicians of MFHT have been actively engaged in teaching for many years and have been recognized in the past with awards for outstanding teaching. We have welcomed medical students, family medicine residents and nurse practitioner students to our practice.

As a practice, we are dedicated to providing you with a learning experience that is both appropriate for your level of training and that will challenge you. We will encourage you to try new things in order to maximize your learning experience. We typically follow a preceptor based model of teaching where you will be assigned one or two primary preceptors. In addition to doing part (or all, in some cases) of the teaching/supervision, your preceptor(s) will be responsible for seeing that evaluations, paperwork, etc. are done.

You will also have an opportunity to see how this group of rural physicians has managed to maintain a stable physician complement over the last decade by having applied consensus-based decision making and integrating elements that facilitate an attractive balance of work and personal life. To learn more about this, please see the following article: http://www.cfpc.ca/cfp/2005/Sep/vol51-sep-cme-1.asp.
Your preceptor(s) will introduce you to some of the unique opportunities available in this exciting and dynamic rural community. You will have an opportunity to participate in various activities such as cross-country skiing, hiking, kayaking, volleyball among others, as well as to enjoy some fine local dining in their homes.

If you are interested in joining us for a clinical rotation, please apply at http://www.nosm.ca/education/general.aspx?id=526&ekmensel=c580fa7b_36_0_526_10, or you may contact our Learner Coordinator Dr. Barb Zelek at bzelek@mfht.org with any questions you may have.

We look forward to working with you.
