Our Prenatal Health Program offers women with an opportunity for education in prenatal care.
As part of the prenatal program, pregnant women have their first prenatal visit with one of the Registered Nurses at the Marathon Family Health Team. This visit introduces the woman to the Marathon Family Health Team prenatal program, from pregnancy testing to delivery. A thorough health history is obtained, pap and swabs updated and lab and/or ultrasound tests as recommended and warranted.
Subsequent prenatal visits are provided by either a physician or the nurse practitioner. If needed, women may also be referred to a social worker at MFHT or North of Superior Programs, to Thunder Bay’s Maternity Centre and/or to the local Thunder Bay District Health Unit office to access the healthy babies/healthy children programs, prenatal classes for first time parents as well as milk coupons and support.
A prenatal information kit is also provided to the patient at the first prenatal visit.
Congratulations on your pregnancy!
