Start the School Year Strong: Make Sure Vaccines Are Up To Date

As kids and teens head back to school, it’s a good opportunity to make sure their vaccines are up to date. Vaccines help protect children from serious illnesses and keep schools and communities healthier.

In Ontario, certain vaccines are required for school attendance, and parents/guardians need to report their child’s vaccines to the local public health unit as part of the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA).

Vaccines are safe, effective, and help the immune system fight off diseases like measles, polio, and whooping cough. They also help protect those around us, including newborns, people with chronic health conditions, and anyone with weakened immune systems.

If you have questions about vaccines or need to check if your child is up to date, you can call the local public health unit at 807-229-1820.

To book a catch-up appointment, contact MFHT at appointments@mfht.org or 807-229-3243.  Please bring your child’s vaccine record from public health to the appointment so we can ensure their immunizations are accurate and up to date.
