The Use of AI Scribe at MFHT: What You Should Know

At Marathon Family Health Team, we’re always looking for ways to improve the care we provide. One of the tools we now use is an AI scribe called Heidi, which helps your healthcare provider by creating a first draft of the notes from your visit. This means more time focused on you, and less time spent on documentation.

How it works:
If you give your consent, Heidi will make a temporary audio recording of your visit and generate a summary note. Your provider will carefully review and edit this draft to ensure it’s accurate and complete before adding it to your medical record. No audio is recorded or saved.

Your privacy matters:
Your personal health information is protected under Ontario’s privacy laws (PHIPA). Heidi uses encrypted communication, meaning any information sent through the system is automatically protected and anonymized. This makes it very difficult to link the data back to you. Heidi does not store your data or use it to train AI models. Once the note is finalized, the temporary transcript is securely deleted by your provider.

Your choice:
Using Heidi is completely optional. You’ll be asked to sign a one-time consent form, and then your provider(s) will ask for verbal consent at each future visit where Heidi is used. You can change your mind at any time.

Want to learn more or review the consent form in advance? Take a look at a copy of the consent form below or talk to your provider at your next visit.
