Stay Active, Stay Warm: Marathon’s Indoor Walking Program is Back!

Winter is almost here, but that doesn’t mean we have to hibernate and miss out on being active! The Marathon Family Health Team is excited to bring back the Indoor Walking Program – a fantastic way to keep our community moving and healthy during the chilly months.

Indoor Walking Program Details

This program takes place at Marathon High School every Monday and Thursday from 6-8 pm, starting on Thursday, November 16th. It’s open to everyone, regardless of age, and operates on a flexible drop-in basis. Participants can walk at their own pace, and there are benches along the hallways for breaks. Imagine walking the school’s hallways, forming a big square—just like an indoor walking track. The best part? It’s free, and all you need are comfy shoes!

Unlocking the Health Benefits of Walking

The more you engage in this simple yet powerful activity – whether you walk a bit faster, go a little farther, or do it more often – the greater the benefits you’ll experience. It’s important to understand that any time you spend walking helps improve your health!

For those starting their walking journey or coming back after a break, even dedicating just 25 minutes to walking each week can bring about positive changes, making you feel better and potentially adding precious years to your life. As you get stronger, the goal is to slowly reach 150 minutes or more of walking each week. That’s when the magic truly happens!

Walking at a moderate pace for about 30 minutes most days of the week helps protect you from different health problems, like heart disease, high blood pressure, Type 2 Diabetes, and certain cancers. It’s not just good for your heart; it also makes your bones and muscles stronger, lifts your mood and energy, stops and prevents back pain, makes your balance and coordination better, strengthens your immune system, and helps you sleep better.

Volunteer Power

Our fantastic community volunteers make this program possible. We’re grateful for those who’ve helped in the past and those signed up for this year. Without their support, offering this program wouldn’t be possible.

Don’t let the winter chill freeze your activity!

Join us at the Indoor Walking Program, where staying warm and healthy is the coolest thing to do this season. Embrace the simplicity and effectiveness of walking, and let our Indoor Walking Program be your guide to a winter full of wellness. Don’t just walk; walk your way to a healthier you!
