October 1, 2021 – The placement on the Regional COVID-19 Vaccination Leaderboard has remained status quo, but the percentages of 1st and 2nd doses administered in each community continues to increase. In most communities, over 74% of the 12+ population is fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Thank you to everyone who has made the choice to get vaccinated over the last month. We recognize that this was not an easy decision for some, but we are glad to see that our populations are working their way up to achieving community immunity.
Recently, the Ontario government announced their new goal of vaccinating 90% of the eligible population. Let’s see which community will reach that next target first!
How are the percentages used in the leaderboard calculated?
The data used to calculate the COVID-19 vaccination rates in our region are provided to us by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit. The numbers they provide include all individuals with a postal code that corresponds to a community in our catchment areas that have at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Therefore, even if someone in our region were to get vaccinated outside of our communities or province, they are still included in these numbers.
