Food Safety & COVID-19

Registered Dietitian, Michelle Stevens, talks about food safety advice with Covid-19. While there is no evidence that Covid-19 can be transmitted by eating contaminated foods, there is a small risk for it to be spread by contact with contaminated objects.

Hand washing is important:
• After grocery shopping
• After putting your groceries away
• Before making food
• During cooking if you touch your face, blow your nose, cough or sneeze
• Before eating, and
• After eating

In addition, it’s a good idea to:
• Regularly clean surfaces that come in contact with food, and
• Wash fresh fruit and vegetables with cold running water.
