Wellness While Distancing challenge

It’s that time of year again! Marathon Family Health Team is launching a new community challenge and we want you to join us!

Challenge information

  • 28-day team challenge (teams of up to five members)
  • Challenge starts on June 1st and ends on June 28th
  • The goal of the challenge is to feel better by learning different ways to take care of your overall health
  • Earn points each time you participate in positive health behaviours that lead to increasing physical activity, improving nutrition, supporting good mental health and getting quality sleep
  • Your team should aim to accumulate 600 self-care points in order to reach the goal of “filling their cup” by the end of the challenge

Why is the goal of the challenge to “fill our cup”?

The ‘overflowing cup’ analogy helps explain the importance of self-care. Look at your cup as your personal supply of energy. If you don’t do things to take care of yourself (i.e. fill your cup) or if you spend all our time and energy taking care of others (i.e. giving others what’s in your cup), the water in your cup is going to constantly be draining from your glass. Without good self-care, you’ll run out of water and not have anything left to give or share with others.

When you practice good self-care and look after your wellbeing, your cup stays full and you have the strength and energy to give what’s overflowing to those around you. To feel your best and effectively care for others, it’s important to take care of yourself first.

Challenge levels

This challenge is about taking small steps to take care of yourself every day. Working on increasing your level of physical activity and improving your nutrition, mental health and sleep will help you feel better and improve your overall health.

Different challenge levels will be available and team members can choose different levels. The level you choose will depend on the amount of health behaviours you think you can achieve each day.

There are a total of 12 health behaviours to choose from each day. Don’t worry – you don’t need to participate in all of them. Focus on the health behaviours that are most important to you. You can also change it up and participate in different health behaviours each day of the challenge.

How to choose your level

Think about where you’re at in terms of regularly participating in the health behaviours listed above and choose a level that will challenge you. Remember that small steps can lead to big changes!
