Showing kindness in times of COVID-19

The Marathon Family Health Team strongly encourages all eligible individuals in our communities to get vaccinated against COVID-19. We recognize that the vaccines are not perfect, but they are our best defense against COVID-19.  A recent report from the Ontario Science Table reveals that unvaccinated people have a 7x higher risk of symptomatic COVID-19 disease, a 25x higher risk of being in the hospital and 60x higher risk of being in the ICU compared to the fully vaccinated.

Although the vaccines have shown to be safe and effective, some people in our communities have chosen not to get vaccinated against COVID-19 for a variety of reasons, such as concerns that the vaccines are too new, or that the government is overreaching and infringing on personal freedoms.

We understand that such concerns can cause hesitation among some people. With that said, we are committed to continuing to educate our patients and community members and providing clear information about the COVID-19 vaccines that can help address these concerns.

We recognize that some may still choose not to get vaccinated. Although we may not agree with some of their choices, we will approach all of our patients with respect and dignity and we will continue to provide quality and compassionate care to all of our patients regardless of their vaccination status.

During these challenging times, it’s important to come together with compassion, understanding and kindness. We encourage you to remember that everyone is doing their best and that they are making choices based on what they believe is best for themselves and their loved ones.
