As of April 1, 2026, the Marathon Diabetes Education Program and Stroke Prevention Clinic are now offered through the Marathon Family Health Team (MFHT). These services were previously provided through the North of Superior Healthcare Group at Wilson Memorial General Hospital.
This transition is a natural fit with the work already happening at MFHT. Our team has long supported people in our communities through prevention, health promotion, and primary care, and this builds on that work.
At this time, we are in a transition and planning phase. Our team is working closely with partners to guide next steps for these services in a way that reflects the needs of our communities. A Design Day is scheduled for April 27 and will bring together partners, including Wilson Memorial General Hospital, Biigtigong Nishnaabeg, Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg, Ontario Health, and Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, to help inform this work.
While this planning is underway, patients can continue to contact their primary care provider for diabetes care and stroke prevention needs. If you require non-urgent follow-up or have questions, please contact MFHT at 807-229-3243.
We would like to thank Wilson Memorial General Hospital for providing these important services to our communities for more than 20 years and for the strong foundation this work has created.
Please know our team is working diligently to support a smooth transition, and we are committed to approaching this thoughtfully and with care. We understand how important these services are, and we want to reassure our communities that we are doing everything we can to plan well and support people during this transition.
We look forward to sharing more details as they become available.
If you require emergency care, please call 911 or attend the Emergency Department at Wilson Memorial General Hospital, 26 Peninsula Road, Marathon.
