MFHT offering COVID-19 vax clinic for kids 5 to 11 on Jan 21, 2022

To encourage a safe return to in-person learning and to further protect our local healthcare system, the Marathon Family Health Team (MFHT) will be supporting the Thunder Bay District Health Unit in their efforts to provide local and timely opportunities for kids to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

On Friday, January 21st from 2:30pm to 8:00pm, the MFHT will be offering a COVID-19 vaccination clinic for kids that are 5 to 11 years of age. The clinic will be taking place at the Marathon Legion and will be appointment-based.

How to book an appointment

The MFHT recognizes that many individuals have been experiencing issues with appointment scheduling through the Provincial Booking System. In response to your feedback, the MFHT will be taking on the responsibility of scheduling appointments for this January 21st clinic.

To schedule your child an appointment for a 1st or 2nd dose, please contact the clinic by calling 807-229-3243 or by visiting https://mfht.org and clicking on “book your COVID-19 vaccine”.

Questions or concerns regarding the COVID-19 vaccines for kids?

It’s okay to have questions about the safety and effectiveness of the pediatric COVID-19 vaccine. We understand that making decisions about your health and/or the health of your child(ren) is not always easy, especially when there is an overwhelming amount of information available.

To help kids and their families make an informed decision about COVID-19 vaccination, the MFHT will have 10-minute phone appointments available every day until January 21st. Consider requesting an appointment with one of our healthcare providers to get more information from a reliable source.

Consent form process

Paper consent forms will be provided to children and their parents/guardians when they check-in for their appointment at the Legion. Consent forms will also be available for pick up at the clinic and on our website for those who would like to review the COVID-19 vaccine information sheet and complete the form in advance. For efficiency purposes, we encourage bringing a completed consent form with you at your/your child’s appointment.

Preparing for your child’s appointment

  1. Consider talking to your child(ren) about the COVID-19 vaccine to help get them prepared for their appointment. Type “Max the Vax” in your search engine for some great information that is specifically for kids and parents/caregivers.
  2. Please arrive at the Legion at the time of your appointment. Arriving early will likely result in a longer wait time.
  3. Prepare to wait in line (possibly outside). Vaccination clinics for kids can be more unpredictable. Know that we will do our best to run an efficient clinic.
  4. Kids should come dressed in a t-shirt or tank top.
